Where's Becky?

Well, I did warn you that I was applying to law school so I wouldn't be on that much, but I forgot to mention that at
the same time I'd be working my butt off at my job closing on a $250MM project.  And in the very small amount of
time that I wasn't doing that, I was focused on finishing Christmas knitting.  So suffice it to say, the blog was the
odd man out on the priority list.

Before the year is over, though, I wanted to at least have one post this month.
And so, I bring you, my December.

I am happy to share with you the lovely new knitting relating items that
came to be in my possession over the holiday.  As you can see to your right and
below, Daniel gave me a very exciting present - Hanne Falkenberg's Mermaid kit -
in purple, of course.  I am soooo excited.  It didn't arrive in time for Christmas, but he
gave me a picture of it on Christmas day and I was so excited.  We checked the mail
constantly for the next few days until it came in.  I can't wait to get started, but first
I need to finish up the last of my Christmas knitting.

Mermaid and other Hanne Falkenberg kits have
become so popular that I am starting a knitalong.
The kits are pretty intense - this one is knitted on
a size 3 needle!  So with that investment I thought
it would be fun to see how others are doing as well.
It's not set up yet, but here's the button with a link
to what will become the blog for the knitalong.

There were other knitting presents too.
My mom got me a blocking board which I've been
asking for, as well as a copy of Vogue Knitting.
I really needed a reference book that covered everything.
You can find lots of stuff online, but I think it's important to also
have at least one book that covers everything.

Daniel's parents got me a subscription to Vogue Knitting as well,
so I definitely did very well in the knitting category (not to
mention everything else I received!!).

Major had a very nice Christmas too.  He LOVES his new
drinking fountain.  What a spoiled kitty!

My Christmas knitting is coming along quite well.  Here's where I'm at:

2 ribbon scarves completed and gifted to my interns - no pics yet, but I'll get some after the New Year.

Pink lace scarf for my mom completed quite some time ago and gifted on Christmas Day - she had totally forgot
that I was making it and loved it!

Ribbon scarf for Daniel's mom - completed and gifted on Christmas Day.

Beanie for Ross - completed and gifted early per recipient's request.  See
November archives.

1 Hatmione completed, being blocked below, and then on its way to Rhode Island to one of my college
roommates.

2 basic hats in school colors for my cousins completed (blocking below - one is a UT fan, one is a Notre Dame
fan).  I am finishing up the last one for their sister who goes to Penn State.  I am also doing a scarf for their mom
(my godmother).  It is
Susan's Bella Scarf Pattern from Knit Picks in Suri Dream - in progress pic below.

Scarf/Hat for 2 roommates - hopefully I can do these this
week??  They're used to late presents so it's ok, but I'd like to
get them done soon.

Ribbon scarf for CA roommate - I am going out there, leaving
Monday, so need to get cracking right away.

I ran out of yarn for the Irish Hiking Scarf so that is becoming a
birthday present.  And I decided not to make my boss a scarf
due to both time and having a much better idea for a present.

And what about the stockings?  Well, the yarn came in WAY
late due to the fiasco I reported about back in November.  I got
about a third of the way through the first and realized there was
no way I would get these done for Christmas if I wanted to do
knitted presents for anyone else.  So I am going to make them
for next year, but I am going to start well in advance of the
holidays, and since I already have the yarn, this should be no
problem.  I will host another
StockingAlong too to assist in the
process.

So 8 done, 2 in progress, and 3 more to do.  Almost there!

So what's coming up next year?  Well, first of all, Yahoo webhosting just teamed up with Moveable Type so it
should be really easy for me to start using MT for my blog!  I'm very excited as I was already planning to switch,
but now it should be an easy transition.  However, if there are technical issues, I apologize - consider this
advance warning.

As for knitting projects, here's what I have so far:

  • HF Mermaid - can't wait to start, but will probably take a LONG time to finish
  • Colinette AbFab Afghan - a little birdie told my mom when Threadbear was having a sale and she ordered
me the kit in Amythest for my birthday - I can't wait to see all the beautiful yarns after winding my mom's!
  • Debbie Bliss sweater for my mom in Cathay - again, excited to start, but will be a LONG project
  • Pinwheel baby blanket in GGH Goa for baby due in March

  • Baby stuff for baby due in June - no PASTELS or anything too babyish for this couple!
  • Finish Hopeful - I was making great progress but had to stop for Christmas
  • Finish Daniel's UT Scarf - I may startover on this as there were a lot of mistakes in my first attempt at
    double knitting

  • Make myself a UT Scarf - I loved the Jo Sharp yarn I used for my cousins' hats and the color of the
orange is excellent, so I will probably keep an eye out for this yarn on sale and pick some up for myself.
  • Finish my first pair of socks.
  • Socks - Lorna's Laces Purple Club for me, pink Koigu Kersti for my mom, something for Daniel's dad, plus
the pretty yarns I bought in MN

  • Of course there are also other WIP's that I'd like to finish - without a doubt I hope to have everything on
my current WIP list completed by the end of the year, but we'll see - especially if I go to law school things
are going to be pretty crazy.

And some other possibilities:
  • I LOVE this sweater in the Holiday 2005 Vogue Knitting
  • As well as the Filati sweater I've been thinking about

  • And maybe the tank top for my sister
  • And I'd really like to make a wrap for myself
  • And do some lace (the wrap listed above at a minimum)

Hahaha, well, I think I already have listed more projects than there will be time for, not to mention all the new
patterns that will be coming out, plus Christmas presents for next year!!  Clearly there will be plenty to blog
about.  And so, until next year, I wish all of you

MERRY CHRISTMAS, HAPPY HOLIDAYS AND
HAPPY NEW YEAR!!
